Pilgrimage Limbo

How badly do you want it? If you are like most people then you want it real bad. This is because the end goal is easy to want.

The question you really need to ask is how badly do you want to spend your time engaging in the process that leads to that outcome? They are two very different things. One is a brief moment in time. One is where you spend all of your time.

“Brain Surgeon” sounds fantastic but are you willing to spend upwards of 10 years in school and thousands of dollars grinding it out to get there? “World Champion” sounds fun but are you willing to spend countless hours and years riding the roller coaster that is competitive sport? Are you ready for the set backs, the injuries and the losses? Because they will happen- nobody makes it to the outcome unscathed.

If you are into the outcome but not into the path then you are in pilgrimage limbo. A long journey with a deep, sometimes unconscious, sense of uncertainty as to whether you should be on that particular journey. You want the outcome but you don’t like the day to day actions that lead to that outcome. Pilgrimage limbo is the worst place to spend your time because you will spend it with half your heart.

Every path requires heavy lifting. You won’t shit rainbows every day that is a fact. The right path is the one where the heavy lifting is engaging, satisfying and leads to growth. The wrong path is the one where the heavy lifting breaks you down physically, mentally and emotionally. The wrong path is the one where you feel no love for the lifting itself.
