Motivation can come from many different places but in general one could categorize it as either being positive or negative in nature.
Positive in the sense that it comes from good feelings or good emotions like love, joy, playfulness and fun. Positive motivation is rooted on a platform of self esteem, stability and peacefulness.
Negative in the sense that it comes from bad feelings or bad emotions like hatred, anger, jealousy or the need to prove something. Negative motivation is rooted on a platform of insecurity, turmoil and drama.
Make no mistake, some of the greatest triumphs in human history have been fueled by negativity that is channeled outward to some physical, tangible end. Everything good you see in human accomplishment is not necessarily motivated by cherry blossoms and unicorns. But not everything is motivated by negativity either.
If you had the choice (which you do) wouldn’t you choose to be positively motivated?
A path that ends in victory but has been fueled by insecurity, turmoil and drama does not fill the emptiness that comes with that state of being. No amount of success can fill up a person who’s fuel comes from negative sources.
A path that ends in victory that has been fueled by love, joy and intrinsic value is the cherry on top of an already full individual. The victory is not an end point as it tends to be with those who thrive on negativity. Instead it is just another step on the journey of life. It does not fill a void because it does not need to.
