There are people who can connect the dots and people who cannot connect the dots.
Let’s say you have a goal- your goal is the last dot you have to connect. Where you are now is the first dot. And in between are a whole bunch of other dots that you must connect in order to reach the last dot.
When someone is connecting the dots they understand the necessary steps that must be taken in order to reach the last dot. Their intention is clear and their actions support that intention. They do the work that is necessary to connect each dot. Normal for dot connectors involves a situation where the work almost always gets done on time, with intent and on target.
When someone is not connecting the dots there is a disconnect between their actions and their desired outcome. Simply put, their actions do not match what is necessary for the desired outcome to be achieved.
It’s relatively easy to spot someone who is not connecting the dots because they don’t really execute with full intent on a daily basis. Normal for non dot connectors involves a situation where very little of the key work actually gets done on time, with intent and on target.
Unfortunately it’s very difficult for someone who is not connecting the dots to recognize this within themselves because self awareness is one of the dots that you need to connect early on in the game. They only see the first and last dot and wonder why they never seem to make it from where they are now to where they want to go.
